Monitoring Poverty Trends

In 1997, the National Anti-Poverty Strategy (NAPS) set out a number of goals to be achieved over the decade to 2007. Chief among these was the establishment of a global poverty-reduction target, framed using a measure of poverty which incorporated both low-income and deprivation factors that was developed at the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI).
A new study, for the NAPS Inter-Departmental Working Group, Monitoring Poverty Trends, also carried out by the ESRI, has just been published. This provides an updated picture of trends in poverty since 1994, using results from the 1997 round of the Living in Ireland Survey.
