HOME OWNER AND DEBT I
Who the course is for:
This course is aimed at advisers who wish to explore the topic
of mortgage arrears in detail. It presupposes a basic
understanding of money advice (e.g. attendance on Debt
Counselling Module I & II). In addition to advisers in the
voluntary sector this course may be of particular interest to
those working in personnel, staff or trade union welfare and
local authority homelessness departments.

- To improve advisers' ability to assist those with mortgage arrears before court proceedings
- To outline the County Courts' powers in relation to mortgage arrears
Course Content:
- Causes and trends of mortgage debt
- Types of mortgage
- Introduction to law of mortgages
- Arrears prevention
- Options and negotiation with mortgage lenders prior to court proceedings
